History.
Deven Grace, is a 22 year old independent designer, debuted her first capsule collection in 2012 and is currently designing a spring/summer collection entitled Surrender Sciamachy, stemmed from "the vivid inspiration I draw from my natural environment and personal life experiences, the delicate yet beautiful process of metamorphisis and evolution."
Though primarily in design, she also holds a background in Art and illustration, learning Batik art from the age of three during family trips to Malaysia, which she now uses in her print development. Never without a feather in her hand she has developed and polished her own unique illustrative style which she now applies to her fashion drawings and general artwork.
Three years ago her love was born for Yarn, self-taught to knit by hand, and then furthering her skills whilst at Kingston University from which she is now taking a year out from her studies, she currently creates unique knitted shawls and other accessories to compliment her fledgling brand. Working for Markus Lupfer in 2013 gave her invaluable insight into the business structure of fashion and tireless work ethic that drives her to work in the industry. It also enabled her to widen her skills both practically and digitally, which she then experimented with and furthered in her own time.
Expertise Expressed.
The design process, to me, is an intense, compulsive and expressive outlet. My strengths lie in my fire and drive, and in the confidence and boldness of my elaborate self-expressive style, which allows me to explore different disciplines with the use of vivid and varying media, fabrics, colours, textures, geometric shapes stemming from my fasination with Japanese culture, and natural patterns, through experimenting in 2D flat work, sampling and illustrations, to creating three dimensional forms and structures. including fabric manipulation and technical skills, pattern cutting, hand drawn and photoshop illustrative work, specification sheets, life drawing and fine art, knitwear and yarn experimentation, developing my Batik prints - which I have been doing from the age of three - and producing finished working garments.
Commitment. Intent.
Expression is the root of my soul, and design carves the river within which I flow. If passion is a hunger then for me, fashion is the food which fuels that hunger.
The hunger I have for design is endless, it is insatiable and I feel that that hunger fuels my work ethic and I pour into my commitment to my clients.
Stand Still.
Like the hummingbird.
Instead of thinking outside the box;
Get rid of the box
